The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in collaboration with the Virginia Victims Fund (VVF) and the Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN), is pleased to announce the upcoming NOVA Basic Community Crisis Response Training to be held January 30-February 1, 2019 at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. Attendees must complete an application to attend. If you are selected to attend the training, you will be notified by January 11, 2019. The maximum number of attendees for this training is 40, so complete your application as soon as possible.
The NOVA Basic Community Crisis Response Training event will focus on techniques and protocols for providing crisis intervention and victim advocacy in response to a criminal catastrophic or mass casualty event.
The registration fee is normally $300; however, we are pleased to announce that there will be no registration fee for this training event. We are specifically outreaching to law enforcement, school and campus personnel, and those that live in Region #4 or Region #6 to add to our trained cadre of crisis responders in Virginia; however, anyone who has never been trained in crisis response in the past is eligible to attend.
Upon successful completion of the Basic training, VVAN staff will help determine which regional community crisis response team you will be a part of, to assist in the event that the region is impacted by mass casualty criminal victimizations or high-profile crimes.
Participants are responsible for their own lodging, travel, and meals. Attendees can call Newport News Marriott for reservations at (866) 329-1758 or (757) 873-9299 and ask for the CRT Training group block. The block will be open through Tuesday, January 22; group rate is $94.00. Scholarship recipients will have a room reserved in their name at the hotel and their lodging will be direct billed to DCJS.
There are a limited number of lodging scholarships available. To apply for a scholarship, please complete the bottom portion of the application form and email to Julia.fuller-wilson@dcjs.virginia.gov by January 4, 2019.
