The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce that it will host “Handle With Care – Understanding the Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on Development, Learning, and Relationships”. Traumatic experiences in childhood and teenage years may put children at risk for violence, chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse in adulthood. ACEs can have lasting, negative effects on health, wellbeing in childhood and life opportunities, such as education and job potential, well into adulthood. Children growing up with toxic stress may have difficulty forming healthy and stable relationships. The good news is that ACEs are preventable. This webinar will explore the impact of childhood trauma as well as ways to find and create protective factors to mitigate the impact of ACEs.
This training is intended for K-12, school resource officers and other law enforcement, first responders, school security personnel, prevention providers, school administration, treatment professionals, counselors, student conduct professionals, and other interested school or community personnel.
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for law enforcement will not be available for this program.
There is no fee to attend this training.
Pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
