Biography: 

Sheriff Hash began his career with the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office in 2008. He was elected Sheriff, on November 8, 2021, and began his tenure as Sheriff on January 1, 2022.

Prior to becoming Sheriff and while employed with the organization, Sheriff Hash was heavily involved in giving back to the community and focused on bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community served.

Since January 2022, Sheriff Hash has focused on increased opportunities for residents formally known as inmates. This is evidenced by the creation of (R)IGNITE, which stands for Residents Individually Growing Naturally & Intentionally through Education.

Additionally, he has expanded the ability for deputies to be collaborative in their personal growth as well as create and or improve processes for the betterment of the agency. He is a Sheriff that continues to pursue evidence based initiatives focused on improving the skills required in the 21st century.

In conjunction with focusing on the agency, Sheriff Hash has broadened the involvement in the community through both the creation of the Law Enforcement and Community Engagement divisions.

 

Sheriff Hash graduated from the National Sheriffs’ Institute Jail Administration Course (2022), and National Sheriffs' Institute Leadership Development Course (2023).

As he continues to expand his knowledge, he holds true to his motto “We Do It Better Together”.

For him, this is not simply a catchy phrase, but one that he stands on as he balances his responsibilities as Sheriff of Roanoke City.
