PLEASE NOTE:
As you are aware, Governor Northam has signed a stay at home order until June 10, 2020. As a part of this order, we have been directed to cancel large meetings and events. For this reason, the "Psychological and Spiritual First Aid for Crisis Responders" scheduled for May 19-20,2020 has been cancelled. We plan to reschedule it when the current emergency subsides.
Please sign up for email updates at www.dcjs.virginia.gov to receive notification when this training is rescheduled. Thank you so much for your patience, as we ensure the health and safety of our participants, staff, and our presenters.
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in collaboration with the Virginia Victims Assistance Network is pleased to announce that registration is now open for Psychological and Spiritual First Aid for Crisis Responders. Research validates that the help and support people receive in times of crisis matter. Providing effective emotional and spiritual care to individuals, families, and communities in difficult times is critical and can help promote resiliency and recovery. This two-day course endeavors to build helping skills and a better understanding of the unique role of the crisis responder, as well as training in the fundamental principles of spiritual and psychological first aid (SPFA). Care provided in SPFA may be defined as a practical, compassionate, and supportive presence designed to mitigate acute distress, assess needs, provide essential supportive care, and link with other support systems as needed for ongoing spiritual, emotional, and mental health care.
