Description of Training: We cannot talk about trauma without talking about social justice. This series of three workshops examines victims services through the lenses of oppression, unconscious biases, and cultural humility. It is centered in principles of racial, gender, economic, restorative, and language justice for all survivors.
“Providing Socially Conscious Services: It Begins Within!” - October 29, 2020
In this interactive workshop, the presenter will explore the role of social justice in the services provided to survivors. The presenter will examine how individuals, organizational structures and policies, individual identities, and unconscious bias influence victims services. Concepts such as power, privilege, dynamics of power and anti-oppression will be explored.
“Beyond Cultural Competency: Cultural Humility" - November 5, 2020
In this interactive workshop, the presenter will explore the way to move beyond cultural competency, to cultivate self-awareness of personal bias and beliefs, and remain open-minded and curious about the behaviors of others. Cultural humility invites us to engage in a lifelong process of learning about our own culture and other people's cultures. It also invites us to develop communication skills that invite learning.
“Beyond Language Access: Language Justice" - November 12, 2020
In this interactive workshop, we will explore the role we ALL play in building multilingual, inclusive spaces within our organizations. Language Justice practices invite us to understand and take action to build spaces where social structures are not based on the dominance of one language over all others -- spaces where interpretation and translation are cherished and valued as critical tools for opening communication.
