The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in collaboration with the Virginia Victims Fund (VVF) and the Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN), is pleased to announce the upcoming National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) Advanced Community Crisis Response Training to be held October 1-3, 2019 at Germanna Community College in Fredricksburg, VA. Attendees must complete an application to attend. If you are selected to attend the training, you will be notified by September 6, 2019. The maximum number of attendees for this training is 40, so complete your application by August 30, 2019.
The NOVA Advanced Community Crisis Response Training will help responders better understand the intellectual foundations of the NOVA Crisis Response Team Training™(CRT) model and perfect necessary skills in applying the model in the event of a criminal catastrophic or mass casualty event. This twenty-four hour course builds upon the essential NOVA CRT protocols with current best practices and in a ‘refresher’ training context.
The registration fee is normally $300; however, we are pleased to announce that there will be no registration fee for this training event. We are specifically outreaching to law enforcement, school and campus personnel, and those that live in Region #3, Region #6 or Region #7 to add to our trained cadre of crisis responders in Virginia; however, anyone that has successfully completed the NOVA Basic Crisis Response Team training is eligible to apply.
Upon successful completion of the Advanced training, VVAN staff can help determine which regional community crisis response team that you will be a part of, to assist during mass casualty or other criminal events.
Participants are responsible for their own lodging, travel, and meals. We are working to secure the state rate ($94+tax) for lodging at a local hotel for the nights of September 30, October 1, and October 2. Hotel information will be forthcoming.
There are a limited number of lodging scholarships available. To apply for a scholarship, please complete the bottom portion of the application form and email to Julia.fuller-wilson@dcjs.virginia.gov by August 30, 2019.
This training is supported, in part, by an OVC Training & Technical Assistance Grant (2018-V3-GX-0090). No federal funding was utilized to pay for food.
