Becoming an Even More Effective Leader

Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce a series of two-day trainings titled "Becoming an Even More Effective Leader." One of the major concerns that public safety agencies deal with today is how to help their officers make the transition into supervision. Good leaders are not born with the required skills; they learn them. Many times what an officer may have learned from past supervisors is not what is needed today for effective leadership. This hands-on program is taught by two experienced, knowledgeable instructors. The course will help those who are soon to be promoted to supervisor or new supervisors to understand and apply the skills needed for the supervisory functions of his/her job, and to make a smooth transition to leadership.

Topics to be covered

  • The Foundations of Leadership
  • Ethical Leadership
  • Motivating Your Unit
  • The Lost Art of Coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Career Development, Your Responsibility
